Day 1: Depart Raleigh, NC – Arrive Portland, ME
Today, our flight departs for Portland, Main, with snacks served on board. Upon arrival, we are greeted by our World Cultural Tours Professional Tour Manager and are escorted to our private motor coach. We enjoy a guided orientation tour of this quaint harbor town before transferring to our hotel for check in. This evening, we delight in a New England-style, traditional Lobster Bake together.
Day 2: Portland, ME – Braintree, MA
This morning, after breakfast, we depart on a Whale Watching Cruise out of Portland’s harbor. North Atlantic and Humpback Whales spend the months of April through October, feeding and frolicking just twenty miles off the coast. Upon return from our adventure, we have time for lunch on our own in the harbor before boarding our motor coach for a scenic Lighthouse Tour along the northeastern coastline. Stopping to visit multiple lighthouses with breathtaking views of the Atlantic, we transfer to Braintree, Massachusetts for hotel check in. The remainder of the evening is spent at our own leisure and dinner is on our own.
Day 3: Braintree, MA – Plymouth, MA – (Optional) Boston, MA – Braintree, MA
This morning, we depart on a full-day excursion to the historic town of Plymouth. Upon arrival , we visit the pilgrim village known as Plymouth Plantation, where time stands still in 1627. In addition to touring this lively village, we visit the Mayflower II, a replica of the 1620 vessel which migrated pilgrims to America. We have time for lunch on our own before continuing to the Plymouth Museum and ultimately, Plymouth Rock. Later, we have an optional evening excursion to Boston where we delight in a gourmet Italian dinner hosted by a faculty member with the remainder of the night spent exploring the city at our own leisure. We overnight in Braintree this evening..
Day 4: Braintree, MA – Martha’s Vineyard, MA – Braintree, MA
Following breakfast this morning, we transfer to the harbor town of Falmouth, MA, where we board the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard. We delight in a brief cruise across Vineyard Sound before arriving to the picturesque island where we have the remainder of the day to indulge this serene setting. Make sure to visit the Gay Head Light, an iconic island lighthouse in Aquinnah, or travel through the beautiful historic village of Edgartown and discover its many treasures and tasty treats. In just a two minute walk from the ferry dock, you cannot miss Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association and its multiple cottage homes, Cotton Museum and historic iron Tabernacle. As the afternoon comes to a close, we return to the ferry for our return cruise to Falmouth and motor coach transfer back to Braintree. This evening, dinner is under our own arrangements in the city.
Day 5: Braintree, MA – Boston, MA/Professor-Led Enrichment – Braintree, MA
This morning, we have the incredible opportunity to be hosted by Campbell’s own Professor Sal who is an expert in American maritime and harbor history. Professor Sal will begin our day with an enriching tour of the Boston Harbor Islands to include visits to Boston’s Naval Shipyard, U.S.S Constitution, Custom House District, Mariner’s House, and Light Hull. After time for lunch on our own, Professor Sal leads us along Boston’s famed Freedom Trail, a 2.5-mile path through the city, passing by sixteen locations significant to the history of the United States. The remainder of the afternoon is free for us to explore the city before our Farewell Dinner and Maritime Lecture hosted by Professor Sal.
Day 6: Braintree, MA – Depart Boston, MA – Arrive Raleigh, NC
After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and transfer to the Boston Airport for our return flight home.
