Please join Campbell University’s Theatre Arts Department for Sophocles’ Antigone A New Translation by Diane J. Rayor, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 6 p.m. in the Courtyard of the Fine Arts Building. This is an hour-long outdoor performance, and beautiful weather is expected.
Sophocles’ play pits one’s duties to family and the gods against their obligations to the state. These Duties are complicated by the passion of both Antigone and Creon and their unrelenting determination to stay their course. What are the outcomes of such an unbending stance? The answer, the ancient Greeks believed, was tragedy and a wisdom that can benefit all to this very day.
