With the change of the name from the Campus Pantry to the Nourish Market we hope to capture the fullness of the space beyond a resource to folks in need. Food is so much more than shopping at a grocery store. It is what comes before that moment and what comes after that moment that animates the beauty of what food can do for our lives. Of course, the Campus Pantry was always more than just a shopping experience with the kitchen being in the space as well as the lovely cookbooks from the library. We hosted cooking classes through counseling services, hosting programs with residence life, and a chemistry class about the science of cooking! What good things we do outside of the traditional open hours.
This change is intentional both for a larger view of what the space can do as well as to recognize the value in language, especially with the stigma that comes with the word pantry. Our shoppers are given that dignity and hospitality when they are greeted by our volunteers.
We hope you will find some time in your day to pop by the Nourish Market Celebration Event on August 23rd from 12-2. We will have Mrs. Creed with us that day to do a cooking demo on a cost-effective meal that can be prepared with love. If you want to learn more about this change or taste her wonderful food we hope you will join us.
